Holiday time can mean buying stuff for many people out there. We at M.L.G. prefer to buy experiences, if possible: movie tickets, trips to places, things someone will remember longer than something disposable or arbitrary.
When we came across Kaufmann Mercantile, these items struck a chord as timeless and enduring. A good find for your home, office, vagrant lifestyle or gift list.
Here at M.L.G. headquarters, we’ve got an extensive analytics team running surveys, crunching numbers, and posting surveillance in an effort to better understand our rabid fanbase. We’re aware most of you are 25-35 year old computer-oriented males. Many of you have iPhones. Some of you work in tech, some in fashion, and a few in international spy rings (we’re that good).
I’ll admit, I have no idea where I’m heading with this breakdown, but here are a collection of nice iPhone wallets from Portel, on Etsy. Most of you have ID cards and probably one of those frequent-sandwich-customer cards that gets you an 11th sandwich ‘free.’ You know that’s an $80 commitment, right?
One for the bookmarks:
“Cavalier Essentials is a line of vintage products designed for the rugged, yet sophisticated gentleman. Cavalier was always briefly explained as—“If Steve McQueen carried a beat-up leather duffle bag on the back of his motorcycle; what would be in it and how would the products look?” This simple idea married an appreciation for lifestyle design and vintage accessories. All of the products possess a hand-made quality while responding to the modern influences of today’s culture.”
Thanks, Emily!
We’re aware not everyone lives in a city with easy access to purveyors of fine accoutrements. For those of you out in suburbia (sorry, rural-dwellers), and who’re near an Aldo shoes, they’ve recently launched a sub-brand called Mr. B’s, which is mostly footwear with some accessories. It’s not mind-blowing, but does have a few nice picks, such as the laceless Maslow oxford.
Understated, timeless (see what I did there?) watch alert: the Timex Weekender. Available in a few different face and band color combos, it’s got that military vibe yet not too austere nor pre-distressed. We’ve got one here at M.L.G. headquarters and can vouch for it. via GQ.
Archival Clothing’s got a nice leather wallet. Looks about the size of a pants-pocket, and can fit a passport and some cards. Available at their online store. We’re big fans of the red reinforcement stitching as an accent detail.
Oh, look, an old mail bag made into an iPad case. Kind of an antique Freitag concept. The liner is ‘ultrasuede’, meaning no grommets scratching your glass. It’s more suede than suede! via Selectism.
Valet mag’s got a quick five-item list of ways to wear a tie. Didn’t think of one or two of them, did you?!
Here at MLG HQ we consume a lot of water, because, you know, it’s what plants crave.* Recently we got ahold of these fine bottles, available here. via Selectism.
