Art of Manliness has a nice little article about single-skillet bachelor meals. We would disagree with the cast-iron skillet as the favored piece of cookware: they can be hard to clean and to a lot of bachelors skilled in the art of microwaves and throwaway utensils, ’simple’ doesn’t involve an hour of pan seasoning.
My Little Gentlemans’ official stance on cookware is to invest in three good knives: an 8” chef’s knife, a paring knife, and a bread knife (with which you can also cut tomatoes). Good sharp knives allow you to divide your materials quickly and consistently, minimizing slippage (dull blades awkwardly interacting with surfaces) and therefore reducing accidents.
Cooking can be meditative and if you follow the instructions, tasty. That being said, enjoy the recipes.
